How They Feel

Foster children often associate themselves with the garbage bag their clothes are thrown in when they are removed from the home; the name "trash children" is given to them not just by some in society, but by themselves.  They often feel alone, abandoned, out of place, angry, hurt, vulnerable.  Although they desire love and acceptance, they often subconsiously push away even their foster parents for fear of yet another rejection, or they act out in anger because of deep hurt.  They need unconditional love, support and to know that God loves them. That is why Royal Family Kids Camp is so important to a foster child.  They feel this, they hear this, they KNOW this by the time they leave Camp.  It's truly a life changing experience for these hurting children.  They leave with the love of Jesus in their heart and unconditional touch of their buddy counselor forever imprinted in their hearts.

The Leading Causes

Drug and alcohol abuse in the home (meth being a leading cause) is a leading cause of child placement services removing children from a home.  Drug and alcohol abuse affects the home in a number of ways, leading to child neglect, child abuse and a host of other problems.

Aging Out

“Aging out” refers to what happens when youth reach a certain age (age 18 in most states) and are no longer eligible for support from the foster care system. Without foster care funding, many youth lose their place to live, health care coverage, connections to supportive adults, and are ill-prepared to support themselves in the adult world.  Each year, approximately 30,000 youth age out of the foster care system without connection to a family.

Ada County Kids

Although FCF services just Ada County,  there are approximately 1350 Idaho children in foster care, (last update) from very young children to teenagers.  This does not include the large number of children that are taken in by family members.   To help either with temporary housing or enroll to become a permanent foster family, you can download an application from their website http://www.healthandwelfare.idaho.gov/

Across The Nation

Across the nation it's becoming an increasing problem as a growing number of foster children AGE OUT without any place to go....there's a moral dilemma; who's responsbile for these "trash children" as some people call them.  That's what THEY feel like any way.  Once they age out many of them end up on the street alone and afraid, no family to lean on, no friends.  Unfortunately many of them turn to crime, drug abuse, sex trafficking, early pregnancy and thus end up in prison.
